Site Resident Engineer (Electrical & Controls Engineer)
Be Ethos’ on-site electrical lead for a major data centre project, overseeing installations, quality, safety, and compliance through construction and commissioning.
About the Role
As a Site Resident Engineer (Electrical), you will be Ethos Engineering’s on-site representative for a large-scale data centre project in Ireland. You will play a key role in overseeing electrical and controls installations, ensuring works are delivered safely, in full compliance with design intent, specifications, and Irish regulatory requirements.
Working closely with contractors, commissioning teams, project managers, and designers, you will monitor progress, quality, and compliance throughout construction and commissioning stages. This is a hands-on, site-based role suited to an experienced engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, technically complex environment and takes pride in high-quality project delivery.
Experience & Qualifications
Third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Site Engineer, ideally within data centre or similarly complex environments
Experience working with main contractors, subcontractors, or within a project-based organisation
Strong understanding of Irish Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations
Chartered Engineer status is advantageous but not essential
Must be based in Ireland and eligible to work on site full-time
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary on-site electrical engineering representative for Ethos Engineering
Attend and chair site meetings with electrical contractors to ensure full understanding of drawings, specifications, and design intent
Disseminate technical information clearly to site teams, including foremen, operatives, and subcontractors
Monitor installation works to ensure compliance with specifications, benchmarks, and recognised good practice
Carry out routine site inspections and produce snagging and defects lists
Undertake inspections in accordance with Building Control (Amendment) Regulations (BCaR) and upload records to Zutec
Liaise with project planners to monitor construction programmes and report contractor progress to Project Managers
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with electrical commissioning teams to track progress, risks, and deadlines
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as required and document compliance with technical performance criteria
Witness site testing and system demonstrations to confirm readiness for client handover
Ensure all contractor works align with the latest approved drawings and specifications
Maintain accurate site diaries, reports, and quality records
Manage documentation and workflows through Procore and Zutec
Support quality control processes in line with method statements, quality plans, and inspection and test plans
Supervise and mentor junior or trainee engineers on site
Assist the Safety Manager in promoting and monitoring safe working practices
Actively manage your own professional development and contribute to team knowledge sharing
Technical Skills & Expertise
Strong technical knowledge across electrical systems, including:
Low voltage and medium voltage distribution systems
Fire alarm systems
Lighting and emergency lighting
Cable containment systems
Security systems
Understanding of electrical measurement parameters for LV and MV systems
Experience with electrical QA/QC and compliance checking
Working knowledge of BIM and 3D coordination, with the ability to use Navisworks as a site review tool
Proficiency in site data and document management platforms such as Procore and Zutec
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and site management software
